Alex Jones wants this comedian arrested for a prank call

When Alex Jones took a call from Tucker Carlson’s number Wednesday night, the conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars had what he would later call one of the most bizarre events of his life. I was thinking we could do a topless show together and suck each other’s nipples and play with them a bit, Carlson’s voice said. It would be a commentary on gender roles, a kind of funny parody. While the conservative host said some pretty wild things on his show about him before he was unceremoniously ousted by Fox, it wasn’t Carlson on the other end of the line. It was an artificial intelligence faked call. Comedian Chris James, the brains behind the joke, tells Rolling stone the idea came to him while sitting on the toilet.

My channel is basically a reaction to the online world getting so awfully bad, says James. So I see all these things happening constantly and how they make everyone angry and feel hopeless. And I just thought it would be nice to try and bring some humor to this situation where people can at least look at it and have a laugh.

Giacomo, passing by Joke Stallone on Twitter, he released the recording of Monday’s phone call on his channel Not even a show. But this isn’t the first time he’s become the target of conservative anger. Since 2018, the Canadian comic has been teasing some of the biggest names in right-wing media with prank calls, including Ben Shapiro, Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingrahm. But now, his most recent trick using an AI program to convince Jones that Carlson called and suggested a show involving their nipples has the Infowars host calling for James to be arrested.

James announced he pulled the prank on May 3 on his Twitter account. Alright, so let’s say someone has Tucker Carlson’s cell phone number, and also Alex Jones’ cell phone number, and also a Tucker Carlson AI entry, he wrote in a tweet that has been liked over 55,000 times. They could IN THEORY call Alex Jones and pretend to be Tucker, and have a full conversation with him. Anyway I just did. But James tells Rolling stone that while he thought the prank would be funny, he had no idea it would work so well.

I’ve already called Alex Jones and he tends to answer the phone, James said. I entered Tucker Carlson’s number, but in my head I thought he would just appear as a bunch of numbers. I was so ill prepared because I thought he would just hang up. But Jones engaged at first like it was a real conversation, even though it was very strange things that Tucker’s AI was saying.

During a clip of the call, Jones can be heard responding to Carlson’s voice by saying, “Right, you gotta do it on InfoWars.com before you add What’s going on man?” Well, that sounds like you, but AI is so good now, you don’t usually talk like that. Jones made his years-long relationship with Carlson public, even after Carlson was ousted from his position as an anchor at Fox News. And during his Thursday and Friday shows, Jones not only mentioned the joke multiple times, but devoted a 30-minute segment to it, including inviting James on the show multiple times.

He thinks it’s funny to call Alex Jones and say suck my boobs, Jones said on his Thursday broadcast. He stole Tucker Carlson’s identity. He faked his number. He faked his voice. He called me and made me sexual threats, basically. And he just thinks it’s funny. Because in his sociopathic world, I don’t exist. Alex Jones is fair game for any offense. So is Tucker Carlson. We’ll find out who you’re working with, man.

After James refused to go on Infowars, Jones doubled down on the rhetoric both on and off screen, calling for the comedian to be arrested and saying he would file a criminal complaint. Tucker Carlson’s lawyers are involved, and what you did, we believe is a crime, so even if you think you are safe in Canada, you will be arrested for what you did yesterday, Jones said. So he keeps laughing, you arrogant little fellow.

I think it made him angry that I wasn’t willing to come on his show, James said. At that point, that’s when he started with him, This guy needs to be arrested and put my picture and my twitter account and really hunt me down. But in the end, he’s just a fucking showman who’s trying to make this into a big thing. Neither Jones nor representatives immediately responded to the Rolling Stones’ request for comment.

While James mostly does his comedy for a laugh, he chooses his targets for a reason. Mainly, because of the harmful rhetoric they peddle. The Canadian comedian says you don’t have to be American to understand the real harm conservative talking points have on marginalized groups.

I think you’d be wrong not to be a little intimidated by the level of the speech and the way it’s seething, says James. I have a lot of trans people watching my channel and the overwhelming feeling you get from them is that this is a really scary time to be a trans person.

Trendy

While hearing Jones say the words suck my boobs live on Infowars was funny, the scope of the joke wasn’t all laughs. James says that ever since Jones brought up his prank, his DMs on Twitter have been inundated with hateful and threatening messages. The encounter, and subsequent media attention, didn’t scare James enough to keep the video call to himself, but it did make him wonder what life would be like without becoming such an open target.

It’s not much fun to have people threaten you, saying they’ll come find you, kill you, and eat your flesh. It’s definitely, definitely not fun. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, says James. I have to let the dust settle and see how I feel afterward. It’s all very sharp right now. There’s definitely a part of me that’s like, hey, you know, it would be fun to work in a library. You know what I mean? But I won’t make any rash decisions right now.
